Today the United States Postal Service implimented a huge rate increase on First Class Parcels. Packages that weigh 5 ounces and under have had rate increases of over 90 percent. We frequently have inquiries about timers that do not make any noise. These timers are frequently used in testing environments such as SAT, LSAT, etc. We have developed a simple and inexpensive timer for this application, the Scholar silent timer. The scholar is a single countdown timer that is quick and easy to set, and makes no alarm noise. If a more powerful timer is needed or if vibrating alert is needed, consider the Control Company 5033 vibrating timer, or Time Now Invisible Clock vibrating super timer. These three silent timing options will fill most testing and noise-sensitive applications.

Are you a swimmer who would like to monitor your heart rate while swimming? If so, we suggest using a Polar heart rate monitor with the T31 type chest transmitter. The T31 is completely sealed and performs very well in the water. For basic monitoring we suggest a lower-end model like the Polar FS2. For midrange monitoring we suggest the Polar FS6. For high end monitoring we suggest one of the Polar S-Series models, plus the T31 coded transmitter. The Polar Wearlink transmitter can be used in the pool, but it's belt life will suffer.

We are frequently asked which type of blood pressure monitor is the best and/or most accurate. As with most such questions, there are a number of factors to take into consideration when purchasing a blood pressure monitor. We stock two basic types of blood pressure monitors, wrist type and the more traditional arm cuff type. Wrist type monitors are smaller and easier to take with you if you travel. They are equally accurate with the arm cuff type monitors if you follow the use instructions carefully. Wrist type monitors are much more sensitive to arm position, and any arm/wrist movement during measurement can skew your results. The latest wrist models by Omron include a feature that checks the position in relation to heart level to try and eliminate positioning problems, but movement still can be an issue. That being said, the arm cuff designs are the best choice for frequent trouble-free measurements. They are a little larger, but are much easier to use. We highly recommend arm cuff models for most users, unless the smaller size of the wrist model is desired, or if you are able to follow instructions very well and are able to hold still while taking the measurement. The bottom line is that either type of monitor is equally accurate if used as instructed by the manufacturer. For a limited time get 5% off any blood pressure montior over $60.
